In 2018 McDonald saw action in 15 games with 14 starts…inactive due to a foot injury 9/9 at Cleveland…recorded career highs in receptions (50) and receiving yards (610)…tied a career high with four touchdown receptions, including a 75-yard touchdown, which ties the longest catch of his career...became the first Steelers tight end with at least 600 receiving yards in a season since 2014 (Heath Miller: 761)…became the first Steelers tight end with at least 50 receptions in a season since 2015 (Miller: 60).
In 2017 he saw action in 10 games with seven starts...inactive due to an ankle injury (10/29 at Detroit and 11/16 vs. Tennessee-11/26 vs. Green Bay)…inactive due to a shoulder injury 12/17 vs. New England…recorded 14 catches for 188 yards and one touchdown reception…is the fifth Steeler in team history to post 10 catches or more in a postseason game (seventh occasion) and first since the 2007 AFC Wild Card (Hines Ward, Jan. 5 vs. Jacksonville).
