The Steelers made multiple roster moves, including signing defensive lineman DeMarvin Leal to the active roster from the practice squad. In a corresponding move, the team place defensive lineman Isaiahh Loudermilk on the Reserve/Injured List.
The Steelers also signed linebacker Ja'Whaun Bentley, receiver Isaiah Hodgins and tight end Matt Sokol to the practice squad.
Leal was drafted by the Steelers in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
In three seasons, he appeared in 28 games, starting five of them. He has recorded 31 tackles, 18 of them solo stops, four passes defensed, three tackles for a loss and one sack. Leal appeared in five games in 2024, but missed the majority of the season dealing with injuries.
Leal appeared in 12 games in 2023, starting four, and recorded 15 tackles, five of them solo stops, two quarterback hits, two tackles for a loss and a sack. His rookie season in 2022 he appeared in 11 games, with two started. He registered 14 tackles, eight of them solo stops, three passes defensed and a tackle for a loss.
Bentley was originally drafted by the New England Patriots in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft.
Bentley spent seven seasons with the Patriots. He appeared in 83 games, starting 68. He recorded 499 total tackles, 21 tackles for a loss, 11 passes defensed, 10.5 sacks and two interceptions.
Bentley was a four-time captain for the Patriots and a member of the Super Bowl LIII championship team.
Bentley suffered a season-ending pectoral injury in Week 2 of the 2024 season.
Hodgins was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He has 60 career receptions for 634 yards and seven touchdowns.
Hodgins appeared in three games for the Bills, with four receptions for 41 yards.
He was acquired off waivers by the Giants during the 2022 season and appeared in 28 games, with 14 starts for New York. He had 56 receptions for 593 yards and seven touchdowns.
He played college football at Oregon State.
Sokol signed with the Steelers in training camp in 2024. Sokol originally signed with the Los Angeles Chargers following the 2019 NFL Draft.
He has spent time with the Chargers, Buffalo Bills, Jacksonville Jaguars, Detroit Lions and New England Patriots. He also spent time on the Chargers active roster.
Sokol played college football at Michigan State where he appeared in 52 games. He had 31 receptions for 348 yards and two touchdowns.
The team also released tight end J.J. Galbreath and receiver Rakim Jarrett from the practice squad.
