Player of the Week

Wilson is Digest Player of the Week

PAYTON WILSON
Inside Linebacker

A game that was forecast to be a shootout filled with offensive fireworks that matched the highest scoring team in the league vs. one with a defense that had been hemorrhaging points and yards the previous fortnight turned out to be something very different.

Yes, there were a lot of splash plays, game-changing plays, and most of them were turned in by the Steelers defense.

Payton Wilson led the way with a team-high 13 tackles on defense and another on special teams to go along with an interception and two passes defensed. One of those passes defensed was a ball he batted into the air that ended up intercepted by Jack Sawyer. The two takeaways that can be attributed to Wilson both were converted into touchdowns in what ended up being a 27-20 win for the Steelers at Acrisure Stadium.

Wilson is the Steelers Digest Player of the Week.

Also considered were Alex Highsmith, who had 4 tackles, including 2 sacks and a tackle-for-loss on a running play, and a forced fumble on one of his sacks that was recovered by Derrick Harmon; T.J. Watt, who had 3 tackles, and a strip-sack where he recovered the fumble; Joey Porter Jr., who had 8 tackles, 1 sack, 1 interception, and 4 passes defensed; and Aaron Rodgers, who completed 25-of-35 (71.4 percent) for 203 yards, with 1 touchdown, no interceptions, and a rating of 95.3.
