Player of the Week

Roberts is Digest Player of the Week

ELANDON ROBERTS
Inside Linebacker

He was just 8 days into his second stint with the Steelers, but Elandon Roberts did what he was brought back to do. Make tackles and do it in a way that had the pile falling backward.

The Steelers' preseason record is now 1-1 following a 17-0 loss to the New York Jets on Friday night at Acrisure Stadium, but Roberts was one of the players who did his job. Roberts led the team with 5 tackles, including 1 for loss, and he turned in a couple of plays that in different circumstances could have been game-changers.

In the third quarter with the Jets holding a 7-0 lead, Coach Aaron Glenn decided to go for it on fourth-and-3 from the Steelers 43-yard line. QB Cade Klubnik completed a pass to RB Sam Scott, but Roberts got over quickly and made the tackle after a 2-yard gain. The Steelers took over on downs.

Later in the third quarter with the score the same, the Jets faced a third-and-3 from their own 42-yard line. RB Clay Trayanum took the handoff and sliced over the right side, but again Roberts was there to make the tackle after a 2-yard gain. This time the Jets punted.

Roberts is the Steelers Digest Player of the Week.

Also considered were OLB Jack Sawyer, who finished with 3 tackles, including a sack, and a pass defensed; ILB Carson Bruener, who had 2 tackles, including a sack, and a pass defensed; and Cameron Johnston, who punted 6 times for a 50.5 yards average, a 42.0 net average, and 1 kick inside the 20-yard line.
