Steelers season ticket holders received an email on Monday afternoon detailing a new mask policy at Heinz Field that will be in place for the team's preseason game against the Detroit Lions on Saturday, Aug. 21, with kickoff at 7:30 p.m. All fans currently holding a ticket to the game also received the email.
"The Steelers and Heinz Field Management are requiring that all guests, staff and vendors at Heinz Field, regardless of their vaccination status, wear a mask while visiting all indoor areas of the stadium," the email read.
"Regardless of vaccination status, all guests, staff and vendors at Heinz Field will be required to wear a mask while visiting any of the indoor areas of the stadium. Indoor areas include Club lobbies and lounges (UPMC Club, West Club, PNC Champions Club and North Club), Steelers Pro Shop locations, Restrooms, Elevators and other enclosed areas."
The email noted that all fans should bring masks with them to Heinz Field for the game.
Masks are not required in the upper and lower seating bowls of the stadium, outside club seating, and concourse areas, including the FedEx Great Hall. However, all fans are strongly encouraged to wear masks, regardless of vaccination status, while not actively eating or drinking.
The email informed the season ticket holders that fans are not required to show proof of vaccination to enter Heinz Field, but in accordance with CDC guidelines, unvaccinated fans should wear a mask at all times.
In addition, the email stated that Heinz Field Management is continually monitoring CDC and public health officials' guidelines and will adjust policies if needed based on changes to the policies and recommendations.
