The Steelers made multiple roster moves on Saturday, including signing running back Trey Sermon to the 53-man roster from the practice squad, elevating linebacker Mark Robinson from the practice squad to the Active/Inactive Roster, and signing linebacker DeMarvin Leal to the practice squad.
Sermon was signed following a tryout during the Steelers rookie minicamp this year, but brought experience with him. He was elevated for the Patriots, Vikings and Colts games this season.
Sermon has appeared i45 games, starting five, over four seasons. He carried the ball 134 times for 505 yards and three touchdowns. He spent the last two years with the Indianapolis Colts, appearing in 31 games, with three starts. He had 91 carries for 319 yards and two touchdowns.
He spent the 2022 season with the Philadelphia Eagles and 2021 with the San Francisco 49ers.
Robinson, who was signed to the practice squad on Nov. 4, was drafted by the Steelers in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft and has spent time on the team's active roster and practice squad, before being released at the start of the 2025 season.
He has appeared in 44 career games, including six in 2025, three with the New York Jets and three with the New England Patriots.
In his first three seasons with the Steelers he played in 38 games, starting four. He recorded 34 tackles, 23 of them solo stops, one tackle for a loss, one sack and two forced fumbles with the Steelers.
Robinson played in all 17 games in 2024, starting two of them, while mainly seeing time on special teams. In 2023 he also played in all 17 games, with two starts. He recorded 25 tackles, 19 of them solo stops, one quarterback hit, one tackle for loss and one forced fumble.
Leal was drafted by the Steelers in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
In four seasons, he appeared in 31 games, starting six of them. Leal appeared in three games in 2025 and five games in 2024, but missed the majority of the season dealing with injuries.
Leal appeared in 12 games in 2023, starting four, and recorded 15 tackles, five of them solo stops, two quarterback hits, two tackles for a loss and a sack. His rookie season in 2022 he appeared in 11 games, with two started. He registered 14 tackles, eight of them solo stops, three passes defensed and a tackle for a loss.
