Así como existen victorias agridulces, hay derrotas que dejan un buen sabor de boca. Los Steelers descansaron a varios titulares clave y aún así fueron competitivos en contra de un equipo al que enfrentarán la siguiente semana en la ronda de Wildcard, aunque en circunstancias diferentes.
Pittsburgh casi remonta una desventaja de 24-9 en el último cuarto y eso tiene un gran mérito. Lo interesante será saber cómo va a evolucionar este equipo la siguiente semana en contra del mismo rival. Esto es lo más destacado del juego:
Mason Rudolph tuvo una buena actuación
El QB suplente de los Steelers tuvo una buena actuación en contra de una defensiva agresiva. Sólo recibió una captura, logró 315 yardas por pase y dos anotaciones. Los Steelers tuvieron nueve series ofensivas en este partido y sólo una fue de 3 jugadas. Tres de esas series terminaron en anotación (3 FG y 2 TD) y sólo cometió una entrega de balón.
Hubo un pequeño avance en el ataque terrestre
Los Steelers promediaron 4.3 yardas por acarreo, por mucho la mejor actuación en varias semanas. Si bien sólo fueron 85 yardas por la vía terrestre y 20 llegaron en jugadas con Joshua Dobbs, James Conner fue más efectivo que en otras ocasiones, aunque sigue siendo una área de oportunidad para este equipo
¿En qué se puede mejorar?
La defensiva por tierra sigue fallando
Los Browns impusieron su voluntad en el juego terrestre. El equipo de Kevin Stefansky logró 192 yardas en tan sólo 31 acarreos y Nick Chubb hizo ver mal a esta defensiva con una escapada de 47 yardas. En general Cleveland tuvo 6.2 yardas por acarreo y hasta Baker Mayfield aprovechó algunos espacios para ganar yardas con sus piernas.
Lo más probable es que la siguiente semana Chubb tenga mucho más de los 14 acarreos que vimos el día de hoy.
El momento clave del partido
El pase a Chase Claypool en cuarta oportunidad
Cuarta y 10 abajo por 15 puntos con 10:13 por jugar. Los Steelers necesitaban una jugada que revitalizara al equipo y fue un pase profundo para Chase Claypool de 28 yardas que terminó en la zona de anotación. Esa jugada reanimo por completo al equipo y estuvo a punto de ser el catalizador para el empate.
El MVP del juego
Mason Rudolph - QB
El partido era una prueba para ver si Mason Rudolph es un proyecto para seguir desarrollando y creo que los resultados fueron bastante positivos, sobre todo en el último cuarto. Lo que más me gustó fue su capacidad de conectar pases profundos bajo presión y poder sobreponerse a una intercepción con dos series de TD consecutivas.
Conclusiones
Creo que los Steelers mostraron cosas muy interesantes rumbo a su primer juego de Playoffs desde 2017. La defensiva continuó presionando al QB a pesar de no contar con hombres clave, se mostró que este ataque es peligroso en pases profundos y también hubo una mejoría en la ofensiva terrestre.
Sin embargo los Browns no deberían ser tomados a la ligera, sobre todo por que pueden correr bien el balón. El juego será en Pittsburgh y ya estaremos hablando de ese partido durante la semana.
