Es complicado mantenerse motivado después de un juego contra el de los Bengals, el cual deja mucho más dudas que certezas. Una cosa es perder en contra de equipos que están como líderes de división y que buscan llegar a postemporada, otra muy diferente lo es contra un equipo con un récord de 2-10-1 y con el tercer QB como titular.
¿Qué se puede esperar de este equipo? ¿Perderán la división en la última semana contra Cleveland? ¿Qué clase de actuación darán en playoffs? ¿Es momento de pensar en 2021? El panorama luce terrible a diferencia de poco menos de un mes cuando muchos hablaban de un equipo perfecto y la posibilidad de ganar el séptimo trofeo Vince Lombardi.
Es momento de analizar la tercera derrota consecutiva de este equipo a manos de los Bengals:
Regresaron los fantasmas de la ofensiva de 2019
Si, anoche vimos una ofensiva inoperante como la de la temporada pasada, sobre todo en la primera mitad. Sin embargo no se tenía la excusa de no contar con Ben Roethlisberger. Los Bengals mostraron que tal vez ese es el verdadero nivel del ataque de Pittsburgh, el cual lleva cuatro semanas sin superar los 20 puntos y ha cometido 8 entregas de balón en ese periodo.
Y se corrigió el tema de los pases soltados, pero en contra de una de las peores defensivas de la liga este equipo no pudo tener jugadas explosivas. Los Bengals no permitían 17 puntos desde la semana del Kickoff y Pittsburgh sólo pudo conseguir 244 yardas de ofensiva total, 3.9 yardas por jugada y 12 primeros y diez. Además sigue sin superarse la barrera de las 100 yardas por tierra, aunque Benny Snell no lo hizo mal (84 yardas y una anotación).
Si, Ryan Finley hizo ver mal a la defensiva
Los Bengals no le metían 27 puntos a los Steelers desde 2006, la última temporada de Bill Cowher con este equipo. Y si bien la ofensiva de Cincinnati sólo tuvo 230 yardas, aprovechó todas las oportunidades que tuvo en contra de una muy buena defensiva.
Para empezar tuvieron tres anotaciones, incluyendo un acarreo de 23 yardas de Finley al principio del último cuarto en donde ningún jugador de los Steelers tocó al QB de los Bengals. Finley tuvo su cuarto partido como titular, su primer juego con más de 100 puntos de QB rating, y el equipo de Zac Taylor rompió una racha de 5 partidos sin superar la barrera de los 20 puntos.
La defensiva no pudo generar entregas de balón y esta es la sexta ocasión desde la semana 8 que la defensiva de Pittsburgh permite al menos 100 yardas por tierra al rival (lo cual sólo ocurrió una vez en los primeros seis partidos de la temporada).
Se le dio motivación de más a los Bengals
Si, sin duda este fue el tema de conversación antes del partido, ya que una vez más un jugador de los Steelers subió un video bailando sobre el escudo del rival antes del partido... la diferencia es que los Bengals lo tomaron de forma personal y este jugador recibió un fuerte golpe que causó un balón suelto clave para la derrota de los Steelers.
Y yo soy el primero en aplaudir las diferentes formas en las que se pueden expresar los jugadores y también el crear diferentes canales de interacción con los aficionados. Pero parece que hay algunos que están enfocados más en crear esa clase de contenidos que en tener un mejor rendimiento y concentración en el terreno de juego.
Me parece completamente innecesario bailar sobre el escudo del rival antes (o durante) el partido. Simplemente se les da una motivación extra y ya vimos los resultados.
¿Qué se puede destacar?
Hubo chispazos del ataque terrestre
Benny Snell tuvo una buena actuación anoche, con 84 yardas y una anotación. Creo que el ir abajo 17-0 no ayudó mucho a establecer el juego por tierra, pero Snell mostró un poco de explosividad que hace mucho no se veía.
El momento clave del partido
No se pudo convertir en cuarta oportunidad al final del partido
Cuarta oportunidad y 10 con 1:56 por jugar y la oportunidad de empatar el partido. La serie ofensiva que comenzó con tres pases incompletos terminaría de la misma forma, ya que el envío profundo de Big Ben a James Washington terminó en el piso, sellando la derrota de los Steelers.

Diontae Johnson - WR
Sin duda el jugador más peligroso de los Steelers, sobre todo en la segunda mitad. Fue líder del equipo con 8 recepciones, 59 yardas y atrapó el único pase de anotación de la noche. Los Steelers se pusieron a 7 puntos antes del inicio del último cuarto en gran parte a las atrapadas, y lo más importante, corrigió su problema de soltar pases.
Conclusiones
¿Cuánta confianza tengo en este equipo en este momento? La verdad es que no mucha. Con la actuación de hoy veo complicado que vuelvan a ganar un partido esta temporada, sobre todo por los rivales que vienen: Colts y Browns, más el juego de la ronda de Wildcard.
Eso no quiere decir que no pueda ocurrir, pero tendría que existir no sólo un ajuste ofensivo inmediato, sino también un cambio de actitud en muchos sentidos. Esta versión de los Steeers, sobre todo a la ofensiva, es completamente inoperante.
