Rookie minicamp roster announced

Beginning on Friday almost 60 players will take part in the Steelers three-day rookie minicamp.

It will be the first chance for the coaches to see the team's seven draft picks in action, as well as the 13 rookie free agents signed after the draft.

The team can also invite any rookie who went undrafted and hasn't signed with a team to take part on a tryout basis. In addition, first-year players are also eligible to participate.

Some things to keep an eye on:

  • There will be some local college flavor on display as two players from the University of Pittsburgh, including Quadree Henderson, who was signed as an undrafted rookie free agent following the draft, will be taking part. Guard Brandon Hodges was invited to take part on a tryout basis.
  • Other players with local college ties include Penn State safety Marcus Allen, one of the team's fifth round draft picks whose family is originally from the Pittsburgh area. Another Penn State product, offensive tackle Parker Cothren, and Toledo linebacker Olasunkanmi Adeniyi, both were signed as undrafted rookie free agents. Running back Dorian Brown, who played at Ohio University, is from Pittsburgh and attended Baldwin High School, will be taking part on a tryout basis. Youngstown State wide receiver Damoun Patterson will also be getting a tryout during minicamp.
  • There will be two quarterbacks participating, including third-round draft pick Mason Rudolph from Oklahoma State and Alek Torgersen, who played at Penn and it there on a tryout basis.
  • Among the first-year players participating are Joseph Cheek, Parker Collins, Matt Galambos, Larson Graham, Lavon Hooks, Farrington Huguenin, Tevin Jones, Trey Griffey, Keith Kelsey, Darnell Leslie, Jake McGee, Casey Sayles, James Summers, Justin Thomas, and Marcus Tucker.
