Color Rush night: The Steelers will wear their Color Rush uniforms tonight when they take on Miami Dolphins at Acrisure Stadium on Monday Night Football, the first time they have worn the uniforms during the 2025 season. It will also be a night when the organization welcomes three new members to the Hall of Honor in Joey Porter Sr., Maurkice Pouncey and Ben Roethlisberger.
The Steelers own an 8-3 record when wearing the Color Rush uniforms.
"I think the Color Rush is awesome," said linebacker T.J. Watt. "I think it's great for the fans to bring energy, and for us to have a different look. An all-black look is always cool.
"We usually perform really well in them, so I'm excited to wear them."
The Color Rush uniform has become a favorite with players and fans alike, a monochromatic look that was first introduced to wear primarily on Thursday Night Football.
The uniform is a black jersey with gold numbers and gold stripes on the sleeves, while the pants are all black, with a gold stripe.
"It's kind of a stealth look," said linebacker Patrick Queen. "I like the all black uniform with a little gold highlight in them and the block numbers. You can't beat the block numbers, so it's an all-around good uniform.
"It's a very discreet, lowkey look. I don't even know how to describe it. It's just cool.
"It's a great look, the all black with the block members and a little highlight of gold is a good look.
"I think it gives off an intimidating look. It's a night game, primetime game. That goes hand-in-hand. Night game, all black, can't beat it."
The Steelers first wore the uniforms on Christmas Day in 2016 when they defeated the Baltimore Ravens, 31-27, to win the AFC North. The team also wore them in 2017 against the Tennessee Titans, a 40-17 win.
"Obviously, we have the traditional uniforms that stand out," said receiver Calvin Austin III. "But the all black aspect, it gives you that different feel and it's definitely just a cool looking uniform in general.
"It brings energy when we wear them too. When you see us coming out of the tunnel in them, it definitely gets the vibes of being intimidating and like PQ said, stealth."
In 2018 the team wore them twice, the first time on Thursday Night Football when they defeated the Carolina Panthers, 52-21. They wore them a second time against the New England Patriots, a 17-10 win.
The team also wore them twice in 2019, including a win over the Miami Dolphins, 27-14, on Monday Night Football. In 2020 the Steelers defeated the Ravens, 19-14, in a Color Rush game. They defeated the Chicago Bears wearing them in 2021.
Most recently, the Steelers defeated the New York Giants, 26-18, on Monday Night Football at Acrisure Stadium.
"It's nice to get to put on black pants, change it up a little bit," said linebacker Payton Wilson. "We usually wear all yellow pants, so it's nice to change it a little.
"The Color Rush uniforms are cool, and especially ours because they're all black and are all business."
A night to honor legends: The Steelers Hall of Honor was created to recognize individuals who haven't just made an impact on the organization, but went above and beyond, whether it was on or off the field.
When the Steelers take on the Dolphins tonight, the newest additions to the group will be recognized when the Hall of Honor Class of 2025 is introduced at halftime, after officially being enshrined at a dinner at Acrisure Stadium the night before.
The Hall of Honor Class of 2025 includes three individuals who were part of Super Bowl seasons for the Steelers, with two of them part of the same championship team.
Linebacker Joey Porter Sr., center Maurkice Pouncey and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger complete a class that brought plenty of glory to the black and gold.
"It's special to welcome a group of guys that mean so much to Steelers football, mean so much to our fans," said Steelers President Art Rooney II. "These three guys made a difference for us over the course of their careers. So, this is a pretty special group and belong in the Hall of Honor with the rest of the others."
The team introduced the Hall of Honor in 2017, an idea that came from Steelers President Art Rooney II, along with late Chairman Dan Rooney. The Hall of Honor was established to recognize former players, coaches, and front office personnel who played an integral role in the success of the franchise, from the beginning in 1933 until now. To be considered, a player must be retired at least three years and played a minimum of three seasons for the Steelers. Former coaches and contributors had to make significant contributions to the team and community.
The Hall of Honor display is part of the Steelers Hall of Honor Museum, which is located at Acrisure Stadium, near Gate B above the team's Pro Shop. Fans can visit the Steelers Hall of Honor Museum year-round.
Making a change: Tonight is also the Steelers Inspire Change game.
The Steelers have taken part in the NFL's social justice platform, Inspire Change, since its inception in 2017, and for the fourth straight year the league is presenting an Inspire Change Changemaker Award, which recognizes an individual from every NFL city who is making a difference in their communities through social justice work, either individually or as part of a non-profit organization through education, economic advancement, police-community relations, and criminal justice reform.
The recipient of the Steelers Inspire Change Changemaker Award for 2025 is Tim Smith, the CEO and founder of Center of Life in Pittsburgh's Hazelwood neighborhood. Center of Life, which was founded in 2001, serves Hazelwood and the surrounding communities with numerous programs, including rich academic out-of-school programs and experiences in music and art.
"It means a lot," said Smith, who was surprised by punter Corliss Waitman with the honor. "I wasn't expecting this. This is a complete surprise.
"I'm humbled. I feel like I only do my part. Nobody can do everything by themselves. I always say many hands make life the heavy load.
"So, there's many hands working here at Hazelwood and Center of Life that are doing everything they can to lift up every single person who is living in this community, as well as some of the other zip codes that we serve around the region. So, I just do my part."
Smith will be honored during tonight's game.
