Pregame Blog: Steelers vs. Browns

Game Theme: The Steelers will honor active-duty service members and veterans today at Acrisure Stadium as a part of the Steelers Salute to Service game. The Salute to Service game, an annual NFL initiative, honors our nation's service members, veterans, and their families.

There will be a flyover of four Blackhawk helicopters from the 2-104th General Support Aviation Battalion, 28th Expeditionary Combat Aviation Brigade stationed out of Johnstown, Pa., after the National Anthem.

The 50/50 Raffle will benefit military charities, including six separate organizations that assist in the Pittsburgh area and nationwide.

Those charities include Adventures in Training with a Purpose, Folds of Honor, TAPS, Gunny's Ridge, Guardian Angels Medical Dog Service and the Pittsburgh Fisher House.

Adventures in Training with a Purpose was started by Steelers four-time Super Bowl champ Jon Kolb, who served in the Army National Guard. ATP is focused on improving the lives of men and women who served in the military through purposeful training in an effort to empower them and provide them the freedom to move and perform daily tasks on their own.

Folds of Honor provides educational scholarships to the spouses and children of military members who have fallen or been disabled while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Since its inception in 2007, Folds of Honor awarded nearly 86,000 scholarships totaling over $400 million.

TAPS (Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors) is the national nonprofit organization providing compassionate care and comprehensive resources to all those grieving a death in the military or veteran community. Since 1994, TAPS has provided comfort and hope 24/7 through a national peer support network and connection to grief resources, all at no cost to surviving families and loved ones.

Guardian Angels Medical Service Dogs is dedicated to empowering veterans, first responders, and individuals with disabilities by providing highly trained service dogs that help people regain independence and improve their quality of life. The service dogs are trained to assist with a range of conditions, including PTSD, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), mobility challenges, seizure and diabetic disorders, and hearing impairments.

Gunny's Ridge is a Pittsburgh area organization that empowers veterans and first responders through life-enriching programs, building a thriving community focused on trust, respect and shared experiences.

The Pittsburgh Fisher House provides free, temporary lodging for the families of veterans who are receiving medical care in the region. Located near major medical facilities, the House allows families to stay close to their loved ones during treatment without the burden of hotel costs or long commutes.

Linebacker Patrick Queen welcomed a group from TAPS to Acrisure Stadium on Friday for a military banner hanging as part of the Salute to Service game.
Queen presented the families with banners that honor their fallen heroes and will hang on Art Rooney Avenue for today's game against the Cleveland Browns.

The National Anthem will be performed by the United States Army Trumpets. Local members of the 316th Expeditionary Sustainment Command will be on the field and deployed members of the 316th will be shown at an overseas military base at attention for the Anthem.

The Terrible Towel Twirl will be led two-time Super Bowl Champ Ben Roethlisberger and Lieutenant General Robert D. Harter, Chief Army Reserve.

The U.S. Steel Salute to Heroes recipients are Lance Corporal Terry Valore and Colonel Mike Valore Jr., two brothers who have served our country.

The community organization of the game is Operation Troop Appreciation. Operation Troop Appreciation (OTA) was founded in 2004 to serve active-duty troops deployed during the war in the Middle East with their own specific requests. Today, OTA supports not only soldiers currently serving, but also veterans returning home who are struggling financially, physically and mentally through their Veterans Welcome Home Program.
The Terrible Towel unfurl will be led by active members of all military branches, as well as members of the 316th Expeditionary Sustainment Command and recently returned 911th Airlift Wing members who will also be honored pregame.

The Color Guard will be a Joint Services one representing the Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard.

There will be a pregame presentation at the POW/MIA Chair. Local leaders will join military representatives for a solemn remembrance.

Active-duty service members will be the flag runners to lead the team out of tunnel representing the Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and Space Force. It will be led by the American Flag and POW/MIA Flag.

At halftime there will be a Salute to Service field goal kicking contest with all of the branches taking part. In addition, the 911th Airlift Wing will be recognized.

The U.S. Navy Cruisers will perform America the Beautiful at halftime. They will also be the house band for the game. Other performances pregame will included the Brass Band of the 28th Infantry Division on stadium grounds and Coverfire, the rock band of the 28th Infantry Division at Stage AE.

The American Red Cross will staff a holiday card signing station for deployed military members, veterans and their families. Fans can visit the display in the Fed Ex Great Hall from when gates open until the end of halftime.

In addition, there will be military shoutouts throughout the game on the jumbotron from local deployed service members and fans. Gameday employees who served in the military will be honored. 'I Salute' placards will be handed out to fans. Salute to Service banners and stencils will be on display throughout the stadium. Military displays will be set up on Art Rooney Avenue for fans to stop by pregame.

Honoring his memory: The Steelers are hosting the Cornell High School football team at today's game as they honor the memory of the team's coach, Ed Dawson, who passed away unexpectedly after suffering a medical incident during a recent game. Dawson's family was also on hand as Coach was remembered by those at Acrisure Stadium.

What's New at Acrisure Stadium: The Steelers and Acrisure Stadium have exciting changes for 2026, with plenty of enhancements for fans to take advantage of.

Among the enhancements are:

With the Draft now in the past, the clock has a new life. Now located on the Gate A Lawn, the clock provides a Steelers game day countdown and is still drawing fans for photo opportunities and an opportunity to reminisce about the record-breaking 2026 NFL Draft.

Field updates: The playing field at Acrisure Stadium will be utilizing Tahoma 31 Bermudagrass, a weather-resistant turf blend to withstand heavy wear and tear.

Hall of Honor Museum changing exhibit: The Hall of Honor Museum is a celebration of all things Steelers, and this year the museum is undertaking a new display to commemorate one of the biggest sporting events in Pittsburgh – the 2026 NFL Draft.

As part of the Museum's changing exhibit, highlights from the 2026 NFL Draft, which was held outside of Acrisure Stadium on the North Shore and in Point State Park, brought local, national and international fans to enjoy an exciting three days of football and fun. The eye-popping display in the Museum features all of the highlights from the Draft – from attendance to community impact. Fans who want to experience the thrill of being drafted can pick up a phone and listen to a call from Steelers General Manager Omar Khan, sharing the news that they have been drafted, just like he does when he calls players when they are selected. This new addition, located in the southwest corner of the south endzone, just above the Ford Fan Zone, allows artists to perform directly to the crowds, adding an energizing new dimension to gameday.

Branding, Graphics and Content: Fans can expect fresh new branding in the stadium bowl and throughout the campus, new scoreboard features that put the spotlight on fans and offer chances to win prizes, and a reimagined pregame intro sequence featuring new video content and entertainment that honors both the team's traditions and its hometown roots. Fans will also enjoy a new in-stadium television system throughout the concourses, clubs, and suites, delivering enhanced statistics and updated graphics that are clearer, more custom, and built to keep fans connected to the action wherever they are in the building.

New Pregame Activations:

Approximately one in four individuals has a sensory need or invisible disability, and to support these fans, KultureCity is introducing its Sensory Activation Vehicle (SAV) to the Steelers pre-game on Art Rooney Avenue. The SAV offers a quiet, calm physical space where fans can step away for a moment to decompress before returning to the excitement of game day. It reflects a shared commitment to ensuring sensory accessibility isn't an afterthought, but a built-in part of the fan experience — creating a more welcoming, supportive environment where every fan has a place to enjoy the game in the way that works best for them. Inside the stadium, sensory kits will continue to be available at all Guest Services and First Aid locations.

•    Steelers Country Returns: Fans looking to relive some of their favorite moments from the Steelers Country activation at Point State Park during the NFL Draft can enter the stadium's campus through West General Robinson Street, passing beneath the massive archway from the Steelers fan zone.
