Maroon honored for years of service

Joseph Maroon, MD, the Steelers team neurosurgeon, received the Pittsburgh Steelers service award for his work with the team for more than three decades.

Maroon, a Heindl Scholar in Neuroscience at the University of Pittsburgh, began working with the team during the Chuck Noll era and helped to develop the ImPACT concussion test which is now used throughout professional and amateur sports.

Maroon is also the chairman of the national scientific advisory board of the Chuck Noll Foundation, which supports research into traumatic brain injuries in sports.
