The WPIAL football championships will be played on different weekends next season, and four of them will still be played at Heinz Field.
"We are excited the WPIAL will hold four of its six football championship games at Heinz Field in 2016," said Jimmie Sacco, Executive Director of Stadium Management Heinz Field. "High school football is a huge part of the fabric of Western Pennsylvania, and we are proud to have Heinz Field serve as the destination for these high school teams in their quest for the ultimate goal of a championship."
The six championships will be played on successive weekends. The Class 6A, 5A, 4A and 3A title games will all be played at Heinz Field on Friday, Nov. 18. The Class 2A and 1A title games will be played the next weekend (Nov. 25-26) at a site to be determined. The winners of the 6A, 5A and 4A championships will move on to the PIAA quarterfinals Nov. 25-26. The 3A winner will have a week off before moving to the PIAA semifinals Dec. 2-3. The 2A and 1A winners will also move on to the PIAA semifinals.
