Steelers Team Photographer Karl Roser shares his 10 best photos from the 2020 season

Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt (90) and Houston Texans linebacker J.J. Watt (99) meet mid-field for the coin toss prior to a regular season game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Houston Texans, Sunday, Sept. 27, 2020 in Pittsburgh, PA. The Steelers defeated the Texans 28-21. It was a family affair. All three Watt brothers played in the same game. As T.J. and J.J. came out for the coin toss, shook hands, and hugged, they also exchanged a few words. In an attempt to make his younger brother fall for a friendly game of "made you look," J.J. informed T.J. that his shoes were untied. T.J. did not fall for it. T.J. ended up recording two sacks during the game and the Steelers went on to win their third game of the season. (Karl Roser / Pittsburgh Steelers)

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger (7) waits in a tunnel prior to a regular season game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Philadelphia Eagles, Sunday, Oct. 11, 2020 in Pittsburgh, PA. The Steelers defeated the Eagles 38-29. There are few moments that you have as a photographer to capture intimate moments on game day. You need to be prepared for those moments sometimes thinking of how you will capture something far in advance of when the opportunity presents itself. I had been preparing and planning for a subtle shutter drag using my flash weeks in advance of the Eagles game. Ben always hangs behind the team as they enter the field during introductions. I waited for the moment and was able to get one shot. (Karl Roser / Pittsburgh Steelers)

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster (19) catches a pass for a touchdown during a regular season game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York Giants, Monday, Sept. 14, 2020 in East Rutherford, NJ. The Steelers defeated the Giants 26-16. JuJu scored two touchdowns during the Week 1 game. It was the beginning of many strange sights with no one in the stands. I like the moment just before JuJu catches the ball as it is isolated against the empty stands. What makes this a bit more strange is that there are no players in the background on the field. Pittsburgh Steelers safety Antoine Brooks Jr. (25) walks onto the field to warm up prior to a regular season game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cincinnati Bengals, Sunday, Nov. 15, 2020 in Pittsburgh, PA. The Steelers defeated the Bengals 36-10. The weather forecast was cold and rainy. I bundled up and covered my camera. When I came out through the tunnel, the rain had just briefly stopped and it presented this moment, the dark ominous clouds above and the serene puddle reflection below. Pittsburgh Steelers safety Terrell Edmunds (34) jumps to intercept a pass during a regular season game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Jacksonville Jaguars, Sunday, Nov. 22, 2020 in Jacksonville, FL. The Steelers defeated the Jaguars 27-3. Sometimes the way a game plays out for a photographer is not the way you hope for. Although you try to position yourself where you think you ought to be, not everything on the field happens in your favor. It feels like an uphill battle with very little that you can control and then a shot like this presents itself. (Karl Roser / Pittsburgh Steelers)

Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Joe Haden (23) warms up prior to a regular season game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Denver Broncos, Sunday, Sept. 20, 2020 in Pittsburgh, PA. The Steelers defeated the Broncos 26-21. In Week 2 Joe Haden recorded his first interception of the season. During pregame I was looking to isolate players against the yellow empty stands. The September light created some great opportunities for contrast between the black and yellow. (Karl Roser / Pittsburgh Steelers)

Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Bud Dupree (48) and Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle Cameron Heyward (97) pressure Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield (6) during a regular season game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cleveland Browns, Sunday, Oct. 18, 2020 in Pittsburgh, PA. The Steelers defeated the Browns 38-7. I love the feeling that that this image elicits. This shot epitomizes Steelers smash-mouth football and the physicality that comes along with AFC North ball. Baker Mayfield is hit so hard that he is lifted off of the ground and his helmet nearly comes off. (Karl Roser / Pittsburgh Steelers)

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Diontae Johnson (18) dives to make a catch in the end zone scoring a touchdown during a regular season game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Indianapolis Colts, Sunday, Dec. 27, 2020 in Pittsburgh, PA. The Steelers defeated the Colts 28-24. Both an amazing pass and an amazing catch. When things go well on the field it makes your job as a photographer a lot easier. This image stood out to me because of the placement of the ball and Diontae's eyes watching it land in his hands. Almost everything in this photo contributes to the movement of the composition, Diontae's body angle, the referee's motion, the Colts defender and even the stripes on the wall behind. The Pittsburgh Steelers huddle on the field during a regular season game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Dallas Cowboys, Sunday, Nov. 8, 2020 in Arlington, TX. The Steelers defeated the Cowboys 24-19. Very few times do I align myself behind the offense. When you see light pouring through the stadium like this, you have to go out of your way to make a photo. Pittsburgh Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick (39) forces Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson (8) to fumble the ball during a regular season game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Baltimore Ravens, Sunday, Nov. 1, 2020 in Baltimore, MD. The Steelers defeated the Ravens 28-24. As the clock was winding down and the balance of the game was at stake, Minkah Fitzpatrick collided with Lamar Jackson knocking the ball loose. I knew before I reviewed this image on the back of my camera that I had the next cover shot for Steelers Digest. (Karl Roser / Pittsburgh Steelers)
