Steelers sign Joseph-Day

The Steelers signed defensive tackle Sebastian Joseph-Day to a two-year contract.

Joseph-Day has appeared in 105 games, with 90 starts, in eight seasons in the NFL. He has recorded 315 tackles, 169 solo stops, 30 tackles for a loss, 15.5 sacks, six passes defensed, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and an interception.

He was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL Draft, the 195th overall pick. He spent four seasons with the Rams (2018-21), before signing with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2022. He spent time with the Chargers and San Francisco 49ers in 2023 season, and the last two seasons (2024-25) with the Tennessee Titans.

Last season, Joseph-Day played in all 17 games, starting 10. He finished the year with 41 tackles, 22 solo stops, six tackles for a loss, two sacks and a fumble recovery.

In 2024, Joseph-Day played in all 17 games, starting 12. He finished with 44 tackles, two and a half sacks, three tackles for a loss and a pass defensed. In his first game for the Titans, he started at defensive end and had three tackles, a sack, a tackle for a loss and a pass defense against the Chicago Bears (Sept. 8). He had six tackles against the Miami Dolphins (Sept. 30), as well as a sack and three quarterback pressures.

He split the 2023 season between the Chargers and 49ers. He started the first 14 games of the season with Chargers, recording 32 tackles and three sacks. He was released late in the season, and signed by the 49ers. He appeared in two games, finishing with five tackles. He also played in three postseason games, recording three tackles.

In 2022, Joseph-Day started 16 games in his first season with the Chargers. He finished the year with a career-high 56 tackles, including eight tackles for a loss, two sacks, an interception, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. He became the first interior defensive lineman since 2010 to have 50 tackles, eight tackles for a loss and an interception in a single season.

Joseph-Day started seven games in 2021, finishing with 38 tackles and three sacks, before being placed on the Reserve/Injured List and missing the final nine regular season games. He missed three postseason games, but was designated to return for Super Bowl LVI and played in the win over the Cincinnati Bengals.

In 2020, he started all 16 regular season games, finishing the year with 55 tackles, three passes defensed, a sack and a forced fumble. He also started both of the Rams postseason games. He recorded seven tackles against the San Francisco 49ers (Nov. 29), as well as his first career forced fumble.

He made his NFL debut in 2019, appearing in all 16 games, with 15 starts at nose tackle. He finished the season with 44 tackles, two sacks, five tackles for a loss and a pass defense. He recorded his first sack against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Sept. 29) when he took down Jameis Winston for a three-yard loss. He twice recorded six tackles, against the Seattle Seahawks (Oct. 3) and San Francisco (Oct. 13). He also recorded a sack against the Arizona Cardinals (Dec. 1), taking down Kyler Murray.

Joseph-Day spent his rookie season on the Rams 53-man roster, but was inactive for all 16 regular season games, as well as the postseason.

He played college football at Rutgers where he appeared in 50 games, with 49 consecutive starts. He finished with 97 tackles, three and a half sacks, two passes defensed and two forced fumbles.
