Ladies learn from the Steelers

The UPMC Rooney Sports Complex was abuzz on Friday night when the team hosted the annual Women's 202 presented by Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC.

The ladies came decked out in their black and gold and they were excited from the moment they walked in the door, taking everything in with wide-eyed excitement.

While the ladies have plenty of football knowledge, they definitely got the inside scoop of what it's like in the trenches from offensive line coach Mike Munchak. Munchak, who was a Hall of Famer with the Houston Oilers, gave an overview of X's and O's and answered their questions.

The next step was a tour of the complex, highlighted by seeing the team's six Super Bowl trophies, as well as the locker room, and the recently remodeled weight room, which includes a cardio mezzanine.

After the tour and enjoying dinner, it was time to get down to serious football business. The ladies headed to the indoor field where they went through a series of drills conducted by Chris Boswell, Marcus Gilbert, Vince Williams and Greg Warren.   

"It's pretty impressive how big of fans they are," said Gilbert. "The younger generation is also so educated in Steelers football too. It's awesome."

Warren, who has done the event in the past as well, enjoys spending time teaching the ladies.

"They are out there a blank slate and you can teach them the basic fundamentals," said Warren. "They are out there having fun, enjoying themselves. It's fun to see them out there kicking the football around and having fun.

"I am impressed with the support we get overall from our fan base, males, females, everyone. We have them home, away, everywhere. It is awesome to see the women get so energized and into it. They know their football. Some of them
