Steelers fall to Chargers, 25-10

Prime time hasn't been good to the Steelers this season.

On Sunday night, the Los Angeles Chargers overcame an early 3-0 deficit to defeat the Steelers, 25-10, at SoFi Stadium.

The Steelers are now 0-3 at night and 5-4 on the season.

Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers offense struggled all night. They scored first, and last, but in between it was all Chargers.

The game began with promise. The Steelers' second possession ended with Chris Boswell's 59-yard field goal. It was Boswell's 50th career 50+ yard field goal in 60 attempts and gave the Steelers a 3-0 lead with 10:25 left in the first quarter.

The Chargers cut the lead to 3-2 with 5:12 left in the first, when Khalil Mack tackled Aaron Rodgers in the end zone for a safety. Rodgers had fumbled on the third-and-7 snap from the Pittsburgh 9, but fell on the ball before Mack fell on him in the end zone.

The Steelers squandered an opportunity to pad their lead early in the second quarter when Boswell missed a 45-yard field goal at the 13:10 mark. The miss ended his consecutive field goal streak at 16.

Small ball continued with the Chargers' Cameron Dicker kicking a 32-yard field goal for a 5-3 Chargers lead with 7:32 left in the first half.

The Chargers pushed that lead to 12-3 with 12 seconds left in the half on Justin Herbert's 15-yard touchdown pass to Ladd McConkey. The drive was set up by RJ Mickens' interception on a Rodgers overthrow of DK Metcalf. It gave the Chargers the ball at the Pittsburgh 38 with 2:28 left in the half.

The Steelers went into the halftime locker room with only 3 first downs, 0-for-6 on third downs, and 85 yards of total offense. Rodgers was 7-for-14 for 64 yards and an interception in the first half.

The Chargers added to their lead midway through the third quarter when Dicker booted a career-long 59-yard field goal. The kick, with 6:07 to play in the third quarter, gave the Chargers a 15-3 lead.

The Steelers made their initial foray into the red zone early in the fourth quarter. Warren took a screen pass 18 yards to the LA 14, but the drive stalled at the 10, from where Rodgers threw incomplete on second, third, and fourth downs.

The Chargers responded with a touchdown six plays later to put the game away. A 58-yard catch-and-run by McConkey put the ball at the Pittsburgh 13, and two plays later Kimani Vidal ran for a 2-yard touchdown to boost the Chargers' lead to 22-3 with 9:26 remaining.

Dicker's 42-yard field goal for the Chargers with 4:54 left pushed the lead to 25-3.

A Rodgers 27-yard pass over the middle to Roman Wilson gave the Steelers their only touchdown and set the final score at 25-10.

Thanks to the final drive, the Steelers finished with 221 yards of total offense. Rodgers completed 16 of 31 passes for 161 yards and a passer rating of 50.6, his lowest of the season.

Warren was the Steelers' rushing leader with 70 yards on 14 carries.

Defensively, Patrick Queen's 12 tackles led the Steelers. Alex Highsmith had 2 of the Steelers' 5 sacks.
