Jones diagnosed with a concussion

Jarvis Jones contributed to the Steelers' win over the New York Jets by recording two tackles and providing the pressure on quarterback Geno Smith that resulted in a flutter-ball that Lawrence Timmons intercepted to ice the 19-6 victory.

After playing the entire game and reporting no injuries or discomfort to the team's trainers and doctors who made the trip, Jones woke up on Monday with a headache, which he then reported to the Steelers' training staff upon showing up at the team's facility. He was tested and treated that day, and then again on Tuesday, which is the players' day off. When Jones still was experiencing headaches on Wednesday, he was held out of that day's practice, which was the team's first of the week, with what was described as a head injury.

The injury was listed that way because the deadline for teams to file their practice reports with the league was before the Steelers' medical staff had completed its examination of Jones. The examination determined Jones had sustained a concussion, and so on Thursday's practice report he was listed as having a concussion.

Moving forward, Jones will be treated and monitored according to the current protocol for concussions, and he will not be cleared to practice or play until he is symptom free.

On Thursday, Jones was permitted to participate in an "exercise challenge" as per the protocol in dealing with concussions, which resulted in him being listed as a limited participant on the team's official practice report. The Steelers will continue to test and monitor his condition, and Jones' status for the upcoming game against the Ravens will be reported on Friday in accordance with NFL rules.

If Jones is not cleared to play against the Ravens, Jason Worilds, who recorded his first sack of the season in the win over the Jets and was splitting time with Jones at ROLB, figures to step in at that spot.

As for the rest of the Steelers' Thursday practice report, recently signed tight end Richard Gordon (toe) did not practice; Marcus Gilbert (quadriceps) was a limited participant; and Brett Keisel (abdomen), Heath Miller (not injury related), and LaMarr Woodley (knee) all were full participants.

Following the Thursday on-field session, Gilbert said he believes he'll be ready to go come Sunday at 4:25 p.m.

"I feel good. Little dinged up, whatever, I want to be close to 100 percent before for the game," said Gilbert. "I'll be good for the game. I'm just taking it a day at a time. I'm pretty optimistic about it."
