Free agency negotiating period has begun

NFL free agency begins on Wednesday, March 17, at 4 p.m. (ET), when player's 2020 contracts expire, but teams can get an early jump on it.

Beginning today, March 15 at 12 noon, teams are able to begin contacting the agents of players slated to become unrestricted free agents and enter into contract negotiations during the period that ends at the start of free agency.

There are some rules that come with it, though. No NFL player contract can be executed with a new club until the start of free agency on Wednesday, March 17, at 4 p.m.

Soon to be unrestricted free agents without an agent are permitted to speak directly to front office personnel for a new team regarding contract negotiations in the same manner an agent would, with no NFL player contract permitted to be executed until Wednesday, March 17, at 4 p.m.
