Kicker Chris Boswell hit a career-long 60-yard field goal to propel the Steelers a 34-32 win over the New York Jets, and now he is receiving his just due.
Boswell was named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his game winning effort.
Boswell was two for two on field goals, a 56-yarder in the second quarter and the 60-yard field goal with 1:03 to play in the game.
"I can't say enough about Boz," said Coach Mike Tomlin of Boswell after the game. "Our kicker is a serial killer, and he's got a low pulse rate. He can't wait to deliver."
Boswell's consistency gives his teammates a sense that whenever he goes out there, he is going to deliver.
"Boz is the beast," said defensive lineman Isaiahh Loudermilk. "That last kick, I'm running out there, and I'm pretty sure everyone had the same feeling, if we protect for this dude, he's going to make it and that's how it's been for me the last four years.
"He's just a special player and it's good to have him out there.
"He's always calm and even-keeled. He knows how to do his job and do it well. He's a great dude. I'm glad he's on our team."
Boswell is coming off one of his strongest seasons in 2024. He set a Steelers record for 41 field goals made in 2024, which were the most by a kicker in the NFL since David Akers in 2011 (44) and second-most by a kicker since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger. Boswell also set a Steelers record for most points by a kicker with 158, which was tied for the fifth-most by a kicker since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger.
This is the second straight year that Boswell won AFC Special Teams Player of the Week in Week 1, doing so last year against the Atlanta Falcons. He was also named AFC Special Teams Player of the Month in September and October of 2024.
Boswell was also named the AFC Special teams Player of the Week for his Week 11 performance in 2024 when he accounted for all the scoring in the Steelers 18-16 win over the Baltimore Ravens, hitting on six field goals, including three from 50 plus yards.
