STEELERS GIVE BACK TO NORTH SIDE THROUGH FOOTBALL CLINIC
Pittsburgh, PA – June 2, 2008 – Members of the Pittsburgh Steelers will team up with Urban Impact Foundation of the North Side to provide an evening football clinic for area youth on Tuesday, June 3rd starting at 5:30 p.m.
Although one of the main purposes of the clinic is to allow youth to interact with the Steelers, the clinic also connects youth and their families to services that are available to them through North Side organizations. Currently, 18 community organizations have committed to having displays, games or giveaways and representatives so families can get the information they need.
The North Side's Oliver High School will host the clinic with registration beginning at 5:30 p.m. University of Pittsburgh Panther football players will be on the field helping with games and contests as the participants register. The Steelers will arrive at 6:30 p.m. for the clinic, and then at 7:30 p.m., there will be a short program with player introductions and prize giveaways. Food will be available for purchase at minimal cost.
The clinic is a part of Urban Impact's "Play Ball for Kids" partnership which works with professional athletes to help raise money through relationships with corporate and family sponsors. "These players actually care about these kids," Urban Impact president and founder Rev. Dr. Edward Glover said.
Last year, 500 youth and their families had the chance to interact with 15-20 Pitt football players and 31 Steelers, including Heath Miller, Willie Parker, Larry Foote and Dan Sepulveda. Steely McBeam also was present to greet the kids.
