Steelers awarded compensatory draft pick

The Steelers were awarded a third-round compensatory pick for the 2017 NFL Draft.

The selection will be the 105th overall pick in the draft, the 41st pick in the third round.

Among those selected by the Steelers with a compensatory pick were wide receiver Hines Ward, linebacker Mike Vrabel, running back Amos Zereoue, guard Willie Colon and cornerback William Gay.

The NFL awarded a total of 32 compensatory picks to 16 teams. Under the rules for compensatory draft selections, a team losing more or better compensatory free agents than it acquires in the previous year is eligible to receive compensatory draft picks. Compensatory free agents are determined by a formula based on salary, playing time and postseason honors.

The Steelers lost Kelvin Beachum, Antwon Blake, Will Johnson, Steve McLendon and Sean Spence. They signed Ladarius Green and Ryan Harris.

Compensatory picks can be traded for the first time this year and are awarded in rounds three through seven.

The compensatory picks began in 1994 and the Steelers have been awarded a total of 32 since then.

The following is a complete list of the 2017 compensatory picks.
