Special birthday for 101-year old fan

When Frank 'Slim' Ernesty says he has been a Steelers fan his entire life, he means it.

Ernesty, who served in WWII with the 575th Bombardment Squadron as a parachute rigger in Normandy, Northern France, and Rhineland, celebrated his 101st birthday on Jan. 4, one of the oldest members of Steelers Nation. And he celebrated it just like you would expect, with a Steelers themed party at Marquis Gardens Place Uniontown where he lives with his wife of 68 years, 94-year old Emily Ernesty.

And his gifts went right along with the theme, including a personalized picture from Coach Mike Tomlin, as well as signed photos of William Gay and Ben Roethlisberger and a helmet signed by Ryan Shazier.

Ernesty had tears in his eyes when he received the Steelers gifts and said it topped the previous 100 birthdays. "This was my best birthday ever, and that's not easy at 101," said Ernesty.
