Harrison named AFC Defensive Player of the Week

Steelers linebacker James Harrison was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against the San Diego Chargers.

DEFENSE: LB JAMES HARRISON, PITTSBURGH STEELERS
Harrison registered two pivotal plays that directly led to five of the Steelers' 11 points in a 11-10 win against the Chargers. In the second quarter, Harrison sacked and forced a fumble on quarterback PHILIP RIVERS in the Chargers' end zone, which resulted in a safety. With the Chargers driving to Pittsburgh's 17-yard line with 1:33 left in the first half, Harrison picked off Rivers at the Steelers 10-yard line for his first interception of the season and returned it 33 yards to set up JEFF REED's 21-yard field goal to end the half and pull Pittsburgh within 7-5. On the NFL's top ranked defense, the veteran linebacker is second in the league with a career-high 12.0 sacks through Week 11.

In his fifth year from Kent State, this is Harrison's second career Defensive Player of the Week Award. Harrison most recently won the award in 2007 (Week 9). He joins safety TROY POLAMALU (Week 2) as the second Steelers defensive player to win the award in 2008.
