ASK THE STEELERS – LAWRENCE TIMMONS – PART 3

Steelers.com brings you the Ask the Steelers feature. Fans submitted the questions that were asked. Please understand that we receive an incredible number of questions for each player, with many of the questions being similar, and not all of the questions can be answered. We selected as many as possible, and took your questions to the current subject to get your answers.

From Steve Fall in Mantua, Ohio: What was the biggest obstacle preventing you from getting on the field as much as you would have liked last year? Was it recovering from the groin injury, getting used to the speed of the game at the NFL level or great talent in front of you on the depth chart?
Lawrence Timmons: The injury definitely puts you back. That and learning the playbook combined are tough. It's all thrown at you. Plus I made the move inside. That is what the issues were for me.

William E. McCambridge, ICFI in Fort Dix New Jersey: What are your impressions on the team's chemistry and how does this play out in the locker room as well as the practice field?
Lawrence Timmons: I think it's a good chemistry. It's like we are a band of brothers. Everybody is cool with each other. Everybody is nice to each other. The guys hang out off the football field all of the time, even when the cameras aren't around. It's not a fake environment. Everybody likes each other.

From Pete Morgan in Tallahassee, Florida: What are you looking for when you are about to rush the passer for a sack?
Lawrence Timmons: Most of the time you are just looking at the ball trying to get a good jump. I am looking at the center's hands.

From Tim Burgess in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania: What is the last thought going through your head before you hit someone?

Lawrence Timmons: I just do it. It's just second nature being a linebacker. That is what we do.

From Samey Charapp in Potomac, Maryland: Do you think this year could be your breakout year?Lawrence Timmons: I am trying to always search for the silver like Coach (Mike) Tomlin says too. I always try to go for the most in everything.

From Jessie Murphy in Sarasota, Florida: Was last year frustrating for you with the injury and how did you handle the mental side of getting through that?

Lawrence Timmons: I always stay positive because I am a positive person.

From Paul Jackson in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania: How hard was it to learn the playbook last year? Was it more than you expected?
Lawrence Timmons: This defense is very complex. There is no doubt about that. You can't take it lightly. I learned a whole lot more with it this year.

From Ed Sanders in Harrison City, Pennsylvania: Has this offseason been easier for you since you have the playbook under your belt?

Lawrence Timmons: Oh yeah, it's been a whole lot easier.
