The sport, boiled down to its most basic of elements, is still about scoring touchdowns. And what the Steelers' most high-profile offseason acquisitions have in common is a familiarity with and an appreciation of that act.

Compare and contrast:

RUNNING BACK
Signed: LeGarrette Blount has rushed for 20 touchdowns on 579 career carries, including a career-high seven touchdowns on 153 attempts in 2013.
Gone: Jonathan Dwyer, who served as a complement to Le'Veon Bell at running back in Pittsburgh last season, took two career touchdowns (on 230 attempts) with him to Arizona via free agency. Dwyer scored none on 49 carries in 2013.

WIDE RECEIVER** Signed: Lance Moore has amassed 38 touchdown receptions in 101 career games. Moore had just two touchdown catches in 2013 but produced 10 in 2008, eight in 2010, and eight more in 2011.
Gone: Jerricho Cotchery arrived in Carolina as a free-agent acquisition with 30 touchdown receptions in 145 career games, including a career-high 10 last season. Emmanuel Sanders departed for Denver as a free agent with 11 touchdown catches in 56 NFL games. Sanders had a career-high six in 2013.

OFFENSIVE LINE
Hired: Mike Munchak was the head coach in Tennessee last season when the Titans scored 16 rushing touchdowns.
Gone: Munchak replaced Jack Bicknell Jr. as the offensive line coach in Pittsburgh. The Steelers had nine rushing touchdowns last season.
