Top takes from 2014 Spring League Meeting

  1. Super Bowl LII: And the winner is – Minnesota.

NFL Owners voted to award Minnesota Super Bowl LII, which will be played in the new stadium in Minneapolis in 2018.

  1. Expansion on hold: There was much talk leading into the meetings that playoff expansion would be voted on, and while it was discussed, there was no vote on it. It has been proposed to expand playoff teams from 12 to 14.
  1. Draft future: The owners formed a committee to discuss the future of the NFL Draft. The date of the draft moved in 2014 from the end of April to May 8-10.  

The committee will review the date for the draft, as well as the potential of a new location, with moving it from New York City a possibility.

The league is expected to decide on the draft either late summer or early fall.

  1. Getting approval: The NFL and the Pittsburgh-Allegheny County Sports & Exhibition Authority (SEA) board approved an agreement to expand Heinz Field in the South Plaza, adding 3,000 seats. A second scoreboard in the northwest corner was also approved.
