Steelers Coach Mike Tomlin and General Manager Kevin Colbert have been on the road at school's Pro Days the last few days, but they took a little detour and headed to Bradenton, Florida, on Friday, visiting the Pittsburgh Pirates at spring training.

"I've gotten to know those guys," said Tomlin of his relationship with Pirates Manager Clint Hurdle and some of the players. "I understand the spirit in which they work. It's great to be in that environment this time of year, and feel the energy as they press into their new season and face the challenges that await them."

Tomlin had the opportunity to visit with Pirates Manager Clint Hurdle and talk to the players in the clubhouse.

"I have a lot of respect for them," said Tomlin. "I think you feel the team, you feel the sum of the parts, when you watch them in their team building environment. It's something I have always enjoyed.

"To get an opportunity to address those guys and maybe provide them a few words of encouragement is just icing on the cake for me."
