The latest addition to the entertainment landscape of the North Shore is Stage AE, and this summer it's going to be the place for some hot concerts and fun events.
The season began this week, with Social Distortion performing in the venue's outdoor amphitheater on Wednesday, May 11.
"I am excited about the opening of the outdoor concert schedule at Stage AE last night," said Steelers President Art Rooney II. "I want to thank all of the partners who helped make this great addition to the music scene in Pittsburgh a reality, most importantly American Eagle, and our development partners Continental Real Estate and PromoWest. Stage AE is a great attraction for the North Shore."
A wide range of concerts are planned for the entire summer, as well as other fun events that will bring excitement to the North Shore.
"Stage AE is going to provide entertainment opportunity for over 40 events for a summertime series," said Mart Hart, the Steelers Director of Planning & Development. "That's going to attract a lot of Western Pennsylvania residents, but it's going to bring a lot of tourists to the North Shore to see what a great place that area has become."
As an example, those taking part in the Dick's Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon, and those in town for the weekend to cheer them on, won't want to miss a concert on Friday, May 13 featuring Donora that will kick-off marathon weekend.
Part of every marathon is carbo-loading, and for those interested in some of that as part of a pre-race routine, or maybe those simply interested in some tasty pasta, Stage AE will be hosting the Dick's Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon Pasta Dinner on Saturday, May 14, the day before the race.
The highlight of the weekend will be the Pittsburgh marathon on Sunday, May 15, and Stage AE will host the Finish Line Festival.
Other highlights on the summer's schedule include metal band Danzig, comedian Weird Al Yankovic, Weezer, and The Avett Brothers, who combine folk, country, bluegrass, rock and pop.
Many of the events at Stage AE will be held outdoors with the Pittsburgh skyline serving as the perfect backdrop.
"You can sit in a grass outdoor area and listen to great music and see the skyline in the background and enjoy the open and green space of the North Shore," said Hart. "I think people are really going to enjoy it."
