TROY POLAMALUStrong Safety
Great players do great things at critical moments, and last Sunday in Baltimore, Troy Polamalu again showed fans why he is a great player.
With the Steelers needing a hero to do something late in a game they were losing, 10-6, Polamalu stepped up. He blitzed and performed a sack/strip of Ravens QB Joe Flacco, and LaMarr Woodley scooped up the ball and ran it to the Baltimore 9-yard line to set up the Steelers' only touchdown. Besides the sack/strip, Polamalu finished with five tackles, two pressures and a pass defensed.
Polamalu is the Steelers Digest Player of the Week.
Also considered were Isaac Redman, who turned a short pass into the Steelers' only touchdown after breaking two tackles to get into the end zone; James Harrison, who played another fierce and clean game that translated into four tackles and a pressure; Woodley, who was there to scoop up the loose ball; James Farrior, who led the team with seven tackles, added a sack and a tackle for loss, as well as being the guy who deflected the Ravens' last gasp attempt on fourth-and-2; and Ben Roethlisberger, who toughed it out despite an injured foot and a broken nose to make enough plays to defeat the Ravens.
