Mitchell happy to help out

John Mitchell has a passion for helping others who need it - especially when it comes to children.

That is why Mitchell, the Steelers assistant head coach/defensive line coach, has made a commitment to Every Child, an organization that reaches out to the most vulnerable in society – kids.

"When I came here I wanted to be involved with something that would be dear to me," said Mitchell. "I was here for three years and had the chance to see what Every Child was doing. Their mission in Allegheny County is to make sure every child has the opportunity to grow up in a safe and loving environment no matter what type of problems they have."

Mitchell has been on the organization's board of directors for nine years and this fall his commitment will continue when Every Child hosts their annual Challenge the Champions Event on September 17 at Heinz Field with Coach Mike Tomlin as the guest speaker once again.

"When you have a guy like Coach Tomlin involved we are going to get people to come out and they will see what Every Child is about and who Every Child is," said Mitchell. "It's going to open a lot of eyes and ears to what Every Child does in the City of Pittsburgh."

All of the proceeds from Challenge the Champion go toward programs to help children and families who need that special touch.

"They cater to kids," said Mitchell. "Kids are our future, if we don't take care of them, who will."
