Steelers Coach of the Year - 2020
Mark Lyons, Central Valley High School Warriors
In a high school season like no other, the Central Valley Warriors were a team like no other in 2020. Led by Coach Mark Lyons, the Warriors repeated as WPIAL Class 3A Champions while adding their first PIAA State Football Championship to their already impressive trophy case. The Warriors scored so much that they activated the 35-point running clock rule in every game they played in until the State Championship. On the season, they averaged 50 points per game, while giving up an average of only 9 per game.
Coach Lyons is the Warriors' only head coach since the district was created by the merger of the Center and Monaca school districts. They won the WPIAL Championship in their very first season in 2010, and just added their fourth Championship. Coach Lyons is 110-29 as a head coach at Central Valley.
The Steelers and NFL Foundation will donate $2,000 to the Central Valley Football Program.
