Last Meeting: Both quarterbacks threw for fewer than 100 yards (Baltimore's Robert Griffin III had 96 and Devlin Hodges had 95) and both teams turned the ball over twice in the regular-season final on Dec. 29 in Baltimore, a contest in which the playoff-bound Ravens rested a significant number of starters. The difference was the Ravens gained 223 of their 304 total net yards on the ground in a resounding, rain-soaked 28-10 victory in Baltimore. RB Gus Edwards piled up 130 yards rushing on 21 carries and Griffin II had 50 on eight carries. The Ravens also defeated the Steelers, 26-23, in overtime, on Oct. 6 at Heinz Field. The Steelers have outscored the Ravens by seven points, 964-957, in the teams' 48 all-time regular-season meetings.

Last Season: The Ravens went 14-2 and finished first in the AFC North. Baltimore ranked second in total offense (first rushing, 27th passing) and fourth in total defense (fifth rushing, sixth passing). The Ravens were upset at home in their playoff opener, an AFC Divisional Round meeting with Tennessee, 28-12.

Since Then: Two-time First-Team All-Pro OG Marshal Yanda, a starter on the Baltimore offensive line since his arrival on the third round in 2007, announced his retirement. The Ravens invested their first-round pick (28th overall) in LSU ILB Patrick Queen and fortified the NFL's best rushing attack by grabbing Ohio State RB J.K. Dobbins on the second round (55th overall). DE Calais Campbell was signed as a high-profile unrestricted free agent from Jacksonville and Broncos DT Derek Wolfe was inked to a one-year deal.

3,127 passing yards, 36 passing TDs, 113.3 passer rating plus 1,206 rushing yards Ravens QB & reigning NFL MVP Lamar Jackson in 2019

Headliners: QB Lamar Jackson threw for 3,127 yards and finished No. 3 in the NFL in passer rating (113.3) and first in touchdown passes (36). Jackson also finished as the NFL's sixth-leading rusher (1,206 yards) and led the league with a 6.9-yard average per carry. He'll enter his third NFL season as the reigning NFL MVP. RB Mark Ingram also had a 1,000-yard season (1,018) and 10 rushing TDs in 2019. K Justin Tucker is a four-time First-Team All-Pro and has 39 career field goals of at least 50 yards (on 55 attempts). OLB Matt Judon had nine-and-a-half sacks and four forced fumbles.

Stat That Matters: Baltimore was No. 2 in the NFL in red zone offense (touchdowns on 43 of 64 possessions, 67.2 percent) and No. 3 in red zone defense (opponents scored TDs on 21 of 44 possessions, 43.8 percent). The Ravens were the only NFL team to finish in the top five in both categories in 2019.

Memorable Meeting: In a game as representative of the rivalry that exists between the teams as any, the Steelers beat the Ravens, 9-6, on Oct. 29, 2000 in Baltimore. The Steelers were on their way to a 9-7, out-of-the-postseason money finish. The Ravens would win their next 11 games in succession, including Super Bowl XXXV. It was yet another example that what happened before and what will happen after has a habit of not mattering very often when the Steelers and Ravens line up against one another.
