Banaszak to take over at RMU in 2014

Former Steelers defensive lineman John Banaszak, who played from 1975-81 and was a member of four Super Bowl teams, was named the head football coach-in-waiting to replace Joe Walton at Robert Morris University after the 2013 season.

Walton, a former Steelers offensive coordinator, announced that he will be stepping down after the 2013 season.

Banaszak has been the assistant head coach the last four seasons at Robert Morris, also coaching the defensive line and special teams.

"I'm extremely excited to be named the coach-in-waiting of the Robert Morris University football program," said Banaszak. "Over the next two years I plan on working hand-in-hand with head coach Joe Walton in continuing to build this program so it competes for Northeast Conference championships. Upon taking over the program, the emphasis won't be any different than what's it's been since the beginning, which is developing the total student-athlete."

Banaszak was the head coach at Washington & Jefferson from 1999-2002 with a record of 38-9 at the school.
