7 things to watch for vs. Green Bay

What to keep an eye on in preseason game No. 3 against the Packers:

DO IT AGAIN: The first-team offense scored a touchdown on its first possession against Jacksonville. QB Ben Roethlisberger has said they need to make a point of doing that in every game. They have a chance to do it twice in two games against Green Bay.

WELCOME TO HEINZ: K Garrett Hartley will get his first look at Heinz Field as his potential new home stadium. Hartley was 2-for-2 on field goal attempts against the Jaguars.

SAFETY FIRST: Mike Mitchell and Shamarko Thomas, presumably, will open the game manning the safety positions with the first-team defense for the first time this preseason. No time like the present to begin building in-game chemistry.

THE FLIP SIDE: After playing LT against Minnesota and Jacksonville, Alejandro Villanueva has been playing RT this week. Can he establish himself as swing-tackle capable? And, will the Steelers throw him another pass, as they did in Wednesday's "Seven Shots" drill?

SPECIAL ATTENTION: FB Roosevelt Nix had two special-teams tackles in Jacksonville. If that type of production keeps up, Nix will continue to get himself noticed.

PROGRESS REPORT: S Will Allen said after the Jacksonville game that the defense needed to improve against the run, get better rushing the passer and become more disciplined in coverage. So there's a significant check list that needs to be addressed.

WELCOME HOME: Steelers S Ian Wild went to Baldwin High School in suburban Pittsburgh. Packers head coach Mike McCarthy is from the Greenfield section of the city.
