Brian Angelichio is in his first season as the Steelers' offensive coordinator in 2026. He most recently served as the tight ends coach/passing game coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings for four years.
With three decades of coaching experience across the collegiate and professional ranks, Angelichio will enter his 15th NFL season. In addition to his tenure in Minnesota (2022-25), he previously served as tight ends coach with Carolina (2020-21), Washington (2019), Green Bay (2016-18), Cleveland (2014-15) and Tampa Bay (2012-13).
In 2025, tight end T.J. Hockenson recorded 51 receptions, raising his Vikings career total to 247 receptions. He ranks third among all Minnesota tight ends in receptions, trailing only Steve Jordan (498) and Kyle Rudolph (453). Since 2019, Hockenson has recorded 50+ receptions in five seasons, tied for third among tight ends NFL-wide. He trails only Travis Kelce (seven) and Dalton Schultz (six). His three seasons with 50+ receptions – all under Angelichio's watch –rank third among tight ends in franchise history, trailing only Jordan (five) and Rudolph (four).
During the 2024 season, Angelichio coached tight ends Johnny Mundt and Josh Oliver to career highs in TD receptions, with Mundt recording two and Oliver three. Oliver also posted a career-high 258 receiving yards and tied his previous season's best with 22 receptions.
When targeted, Oliver produced the second-highest QB rating among all players with 20+ targets in 2024, catching 22 of 28 targets for 258 yards and three TDs (140.8). Only Baltimore's Mark Andrews finished higher, recording a 140.9 rating on 55 receptions for 673 yards and 11 TDs.
Angelichio navigated the first seven games of the 2024 season without starting Hockenson, who was sidelined with an injury sustained at the end of the 2023 season. Hockenson returned in Week 9 and totaled 41 receptions for 455 yards, ranking fifth among tight ends in receptions and sixth in receiving yards over that span. His 11.1 yards/reception ranked third among tight ends with 35+ catches.
From Weeks 9-18 of the 2024 season, Vikings tight ends combined for 61 receptions and 690 receiving yards, leading the NFL in yards/reception (11.8) among teams that targeted their tight ends at least 70 times. The group also recorded 44 receiving first downs, tied for the second most in the League with Kansas City and trailing only Arizona (49).
The 2023 season marked the second for both Angelichio and Hockenson together in Minnesota. Under Angelichio's guidance, Hockenson finished second among tight ends in receptions (95) and 20+ yard catches (13), tied for second in receiving first downs (48) and was fourth in receiving yards (960), despite missing the final two games of the regular season. Hockenson's 95 receptions marked the most by a tight end in a single season in franchise history, topping Kyle Rudolph's 83 catches in 2016, and his 95 catches were the 18th most in a single season in NFL history among all TEs. He was also just 45 yards shy of surpassing tight end Joe Senser (1,004, 1981) for the most receiving yards by a TE in a single season in franchise history.
Angelichio helped the Vikings finish the 2023 season fifth in the League in passing offense (256.4 passing yards/game). Minnesota was one of just three teams to rank inside the top six in the NFL in passing offense in both 2022 and '23, joining Miami (fourth in '22, first in '23) and Kansas City (first in '22, sixth in '23). The Vikings finished sixth in passing offense in his first year as passing game coordinator.
In his debut season in Minnesota in 2022, Angelichio coached Hockenson, who was acquired by the Vikings in a trade with Detroit on Nov. 1, 2022, to his second Pro Bowl ('22 and '20), becoming the first team's first tight end to be selected to the Pro Bowl since Rudolph in 2017. Hockenson caught 65 passes for 730 yards and four TDs with the Vikings. His 86 combined receptions in 2022 with both Detroit and Minnesota, were the second-most by a tight end, behind only Travis Kelce (110).
During his time with the Panthers, Angelichio helped develop tight ends Tommy Tremble and Ian Thomas. Tremble, a 2021 third-round pick (83rd overall) from Notre Dame, finished his rookie season catching 20 passes for 180 yards and a TD. In 2020, Thomas recorded 20 receptions for 145 yards, while helping block for running back Mike Davis, who posted his first 1,000+ scrimmage-yard season.
Prior to his time with the Panthers, Angelichio coached the tight ends with Washington in 2019. Following an injury to tight end Vernon Davis, Angelichio guided tight end Jeremy Sprinkle to career highs in receptions (26), receiving yards (241) and TDs (one).
Angelichio worked in Green Bay for three seasons (2016-18), coaching tight ends Jimmy Graham, Martellus Bennett, Jared Cook and Richard Rodgers. Angelichio helped Graham to 636 receiving yards in 2018, which was the second-most on the team, trailing only wide receiver Davante Adams. During the Packers run to the 2016 NFC Championship Game, Angelichio coached Cook (377) and Rodgers (271) to a combined 648 receiving yards, becoming one of five NFC teams with multiple tight ends that posted 250+ receiving yards.
As the Cleveland tight ends coach during the 2015 season, Angelichio helped tight end Gary Barnidge to a career year, with 79 receptions for 1,043 yards and nine TDs. Barnidge led the Browns in receiving, and his standout numbers earned him his lone-career Pro Bowl selection. In 2014, Angelichio assisted in tight end Jordan Cameron recording 424 receiving yards, the second most of his career.
Prior to Cleveland, Angelichio coached tight ends with the Buccaneers (2012-13). In 2013, Angelichio helped transform undrafted rookie tight end Tim Wright into the team's second-leading receiver, posting what would remain a career-high 54 receptions for 571 yards and five TDs. Wright finished the year as the only rookie tight end to surpass 500 receiving yards that season.
Before his time in the NFL, Angelichio made stops at Rutgers (2011), Pitt (2006-10), Ithaca College (1996-2005) and SUNY-Brockport (1995). While serving as the tight ends coach at Pitt and Rutgers, six-time NFL Pro Bowl running back LeSean McCoy (Pitt) accumulated 3,365 scrimmage yards and 36 total TDs in 2007-08 and WR Mohamed Sanu (Rutgers) posted 1,206 receiving yards in 2011.
Angelichio was a four-year starter (1991-94) at linebacker for St. Lawrence University, where he also served as the baseball team captain and earned a bachelor's degree in physical education in 1995. He later received a master's degree from Ithaca College in 1997.
