'The Terrible Towel Tour' is set to embark on Ireland

Next Sunday, the Steelers will play in the first ever regular season in Dublin, Ireland.

But Max Starks arrives on the island of Ireland on Monday to help kick off a week of celebrating Steelers football as well as Irish culture and history.

Starks, a two-time Steelers Super Bowl champion and now the color analyst on the Steelers Audio Network game broadcasts, will make his way across the island as part of "The Terrible Towel Tour," presented by Aer Lingus.

Throughout the multi-day tour, which features stops all across the island in a special Steelers branded van, Starks will see the sights, visit local celebrities and dignitaries – and of course hand out Terrible Towels.

"I can't wait for this – a chance to see lots of an amazing places and meet people all over the island," said Starks. "It ties together two important aspects in how the Steelers activate in Ireland. We want to introduce as many people as we can to the team and our traditions - and one of the greatest traditions for Steelers fans is owning and displaying a Terrible Towel.

"Secondly, and this dates back to Ambassador Rooney, the team wants to connect with people all across the island. What better way to combine these things than to deliver Terrible Towels?"

The late Steelers Chairman Dan Rooney Sr., who served as the U.S. Ambassador to Ireland from 2009-2012, is still the only person to have held the position to have visited all 32 counties in his time in the role.

Starks looks forward to getting the towels twirling along the route.

"I have to teach the twirl, that's the first thing," said Starks. "It's about getting a group together. It's almost like a yoga class. Warm up the elbow, get the shoulder rotator cuff going, and then you make sure you have a good grip on the towel.

"You have to pick a corner to hold the towel. You have a lucky corner or whatever corner. You bunch it up and then you just make sure that twirl is consistent. Almost like a lasso. You've got to get it done."

"The Terrible Towel Tour" can be followed by Steelers fans everywhere through the Steelers official Irish social media channels - @SteelersIreland on X, Instagram and TikTok.
