Smile for the camera

Click. Click. Click. Click.

That will be the sweet sound of cameras across, not just the country, but the world on September 3 at 10:30 a.m., snapping pictures that are definitely worth 1,000 words.

And it all started with a simple idea.

Sergio Carrasco reached out to fellow Steelers fans in Mexico to unite to do something special for their favorite team. The idea was to gather fellow fans and take a group picture in front of an iconic symbol in their city in Mexico.

"We wanted to do something to make Mexican fans standout to show our passion for the team, as well as bringing fans together," said Carrasco. "I discussed it with a Mexican friend that lives in Washington, Guillermo Vargas, and he believed we had a great idea in place and started to plan the event worldwide."

The idea, which began in 2014, continues to grow each year, with thousands of fans coming out in different cities around the world to show their Steelers pride. This year fans in 11 countries, including the United States, Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, Ireland, Spain, and the United Kingdom. And more are encouraged to join in and post their photos on social media, using the hashtag #SteelersWorldwide and #RandomActsOfKickoff.

"It's been incredible," said Carrasco. "It brings me so much joy just to see how a simple idea is now an established event. It is special for me because through this I can represent my country, and show that we are passionate. It motivates me to keep spreading this passion we have for the Steelers."

The fans don't just smile for the camera, though. They support the team continuously, and will be gathered together this Sunday when the regular season kicks off.

"We get to see our Steelers play every weekend again and it brings all of us, the fans, together," said Carrasco. "We all get together to watch the game and suddenly it's like we are all family, and that is something we have learned through the values of the Rooney family.

"Knowing that the team recognizes our efforts, it only motivates us to keep spreading the passion we have for the Steelers. Our goal is for everyone around us to feel the same way we do and love this great team."
