Playoff excitement is at a fever pitch in Pittsburgh right now as the Steelers prepare to take on the Houston Texans in a Wild Card game at Acrisure Stadium, and that excitement is spreading throughout the city with local businesses, schools and individuals getting in on the action.
Throughout the city, Terrible Towel window clings are visible to celebrate the home playoff game, as well as the 50th Anniversary of the Terrible Towel.
"Fifty years ago, the Terrible Towel was created by the legendary sports broadcaster Myron Cope for the playoffs and quickly became not only a rallying symbol of Steelers Nation but one of the most recognized traditions in the world of sports," said Ryan Huzjak, Steelers Senior Vice President of Business Operations. "As the Steelers head into the playoffs, and on the occasion of the Terrible Towel's milestone anniversary, it is only fitting that we unite fans by bringing this iconic symbol to life with activations across Pittsburgh and beyond."
Fans are encouraged to enter the Steelers Playoff Sweepstakes, presented by Neighborhood Ford Store. Fans can enter to win a trip for two to the Steelers Wild Card Game, including two game tickets, airfare* and a hotel stay*, plus a $250 Visa gift card. Entries must be submitted by noon ET on Wednesday, January 7 at Steelers Playoff Sweepstakes.
Fans will be able to gather as one at the Steelers Playoff Party presented by Neighborhood Ford Store. The party will be held at Tequila Cowboy on the North Shore on Saturday, January 10 from 5-7 p.m. Prizes, game ticket giveaways and appearances by Steelers Legends will be featured. No tickets are required but fans are encouraged to RSVP by visiting the Steelers Playoff Party.
The skyline will be lit black and gold during the week, with major businesses lighting up with Steelers spirit.
The 'sister bridges' on the North Shore, which include the Roberto Clemente, Andy Warhol and Rachel Carson Bridges, will light up black and gold around game day, a unique tribute to the team.
Beginning this Thursday, January 8, Terrible Towel themed photo opportunities will be placed around the city for fan photo opportunities. Fans are encouraged to visit the photo op located at The Terminal in the Strip District (20th Street passageway) and at baggage claim inside Pittsburgh International Airport to snap a photo and tag @Steelers and @SteelersUnite for a chance to be featured on our channels.
And what would the playoffs be without Black and Gold Fridays, run through the Steelers social media channels. Fans are encouraged to show support for the Steelers by donning Black & Gold on Friday, January 9.
In addition, on Friday, the Steelers will bring fan energy to the North Shore with a special coffee truck activation from 11:30 a.m to 2:00 p.m. at the entrance of Stage AE, located on Chuck Noll Way. The pop-up will feature Black & Gold themed coffee.
The teams is also hosting a pep rally at a local school on Friday, January 9, with special appearances by Steely McBeam, the Pittsburgh Steeline and giveaways.
Fans can share their Steelers pride and wave their Terrible Towels on X, Instagram, TikTok, and/or Facebook.
