Bell is Digest Player of the Week

Posted Jan 8, 2017

In his first playoff game, Bell broke the single-game franchise postseason rushing record.

LE’VEON BELL
Running Back

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been involved in a lot of playoff games, and they always have been a team that believes in running the football, and they have a couple of guys who did a lot of the running the football for them in those playoff games enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. But in all of those postseason games, neither Franco Harris nor Jerome Bettis ever rushed for more yards in a playoff game than Le’Veon Bell totaled in the 30-12 Wild Card Round victory over the Miami Dolphins today at Heinz Field.

The Steelers now advance to the Divisional Round, where they will face the Chiefs in Kansas City at 1 p.m. on Jan. 15.

Bell rushed for 167 yards on 29 carries (5.8 average), and he scored two touchdowns. Bell also caught two passes for 7 more yards to finish with 174 from scrimmage, and for that he is the Steelers Digest Player of the Week.

Also considered were Lawrence Timmons, who led the team with 14 tackles, including two for loss, plus two of the Steelers’ five sacks; James Harrison, who had 10 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and a forced fumble that Stephon Tuitt recovered to end a Miami scoring threat at the end of the first half; Mike Mitchell, who had eight tackles, a sack and a forced fumble that L.T. Walton recovered; and Ryan Shazier, who had six tackles, including one for loss, two pressures, and an interception.
