von Oelhoffen headed to the HOF

Steelers' alumni Kimo von Oelhoffen was elected into the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 2018.

The former defensive lineman played six seasons for the Steelers, 2000-05, and was a member of the Super Bowl XL championship team.

He started 94 of the 95 games he played for the Steelers, finishing his time in Pittsburgh with 229 tackles, 171 of them solo stops. He also had 20.5 sacks, six fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles with the Steelers.

"What makes the Steelers who they are, they love their players while they are playing and when they are finished," said von Oelhoffen. "That is why I love the Steelers. It's awesome. It's special. It changed my life."

He was originally selected by the Cincinnati Bengals in the sixth round of the 1994 NFL Draft, and played there from 1994-99, before joining the Steelers. He finished his NFL career playing the New York Jets (2006) and Philadelphia Eagles (2007).

The class of 2018 includes: Herman Clark, Ma'ake Kemoeatu, Manu Tuiasosopo, and von Oelhoffen as the player inductees, and Bob Apisa as a contributor. They will be inducted during the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement weekend on January 19-20 in Oahu, Hawaii.
