Nina's style is inspired by her love of art nouveau, comic books, movie posters, and music. She dives deep into symbolism and emotions when crafting her concepts while listening to curated playlists, tying her graphic design degree with her passion for illustration and creativity to conjure unique and fantastical creations, whether minimalistic or complex. She is an avid football and sports fan and loves that she is able to bring together her personal and career passions in her role at Ready®.
Week 11: Steelers vs. Bengals
Bio: Matt Spahr grew up during one of the most exciting era of Steelers football, the 1970's and early 80's. Along with being a huge Pittsburgh sports fan, he was also very much into comic books and skateboarding. From an artistic perspective, he has always been the kind of guy who'd rather read a copy of Vaughn Bodé's Cheech Wizard than stand in a museum, staring at paintings that, more times than not, mean nothing to him. Over the years, not much has changed in that regard. He still love comics, skateboarding, graffiti, rock music and smash mouth Steelers football.
Some of the fine folks that he has had the pleasure of working with are: Condado tacos (Team Lead, 12 locations, from here to Huntsville, AL), Millie's Ice Cream, Richard DeShantz Restaurant Group and Pyrotecnico Fireworks, just to name a few.
He also work as a freelance illustrator when he's not up in a scissor lift painting murals. He'd like to mention that working on this project has been a blast, and it's his hope that fans like the poster as much as he liked making it.
Week 9: Steelers vs. Colts
Bio: Mike Budai is an illustrator and screen printer working in Pittsburgh, Pa. He began working in screen shops in the mid 90's while attending Edinboro University for Animation and Printmaking. Upon completing college, he began volunteering at Artists Image Resource (A.I.R.) in 2001 working in various mediums, primarily screen printing. Since then, he has created hundreds of silk-screened posters for concerts, logos and illustrations for businesses, non-profits and organizations, and has shown his print and illustration work in galleries all over the US, including Mondo in Austin, Tx., Rotofugi in Chicago Il., and Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles.
Week 8: Steelers vs. Packers
Bio: Annie Heisey is an artist and educator based in Pittsburgh, PA. She received her BFA from Penn State University in 2003 and her MFA from Boston University in 2007. Heisey's work has been exhibited nationally in galleries and institutions such as the Boston Center for the Arts in Boston, MA, Lemieux Galleries in New Orleans, LA, and the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh, PA. She has been highlighted in publications such as The Boston Globe and included in multiple exhibition catalogues from institutions such as The Boston Center for the Arts and The Fitchburg Art Museum. Her work is in both private and corporate collections including the Arthur S. Goldberg collection and The Pittsburgh Foundation.
Week 6: Steelers vs. Browns
Bio: Lizzee Solomon is an artist, designer, and fabricator who has called Pittsburgh home for the past 15 years. Originally from the Chicagoland area, she studied Studio Art at Carnegie Mellon University and became fascinated with underground comics and folk art. Shortly after graduating, she learned how to use a CNC laser cutter, which was a major turning point for her as an artist. This machine helps her realize my wild visions into colorful art objects made of wood and plastic. She use a mix of color, pattern, and humor in my work. She has done creative work with clients such as Condado Tacos, Troegs Independent Brewing, and Market District Giant Eagle. She currently works out of Protohaven (a local makerspace) making artwork, tackling custom projects, fabricating signage jobs, and teaching others how to use the equipment.
Week 4: Steelers vs. Vikings
Bio: Shelby Kirk has been working in Pittsburgh as a designer and illustrator for Bootstrap Design Company for six years. This has allowed her to do illustration work for many beloved Pittsburgh brands such as La Prima Espresso Co., Slice on Broadway, CMU School of Computer Science, Leona's, and Shorty's Pins x Pints. Professional design work challenges her to develop a wide array of styles tailored to the unique voice of each individual client. This project was an exciting opportunity to tap into her own personal style and express her love for the city she calls home.
In any and all of her free time, she loves to run, bike and hike with her 2 pups and her fiancé.
Week 2: Steelers vs. Seahawks
Bio: Jeremy Beightol is an illustrator and painter that got his start in art as a teenager designing t-shirts for himself and his friends in Erie, PA. This small start gained momentum after a short while, catching the attention of various action sports and streetwear brands nationally, then internationally. Steady work allotted him the time to take up painting as a way to break up the monotony of designing, and his work was soon showing in galleries in Pittsburgh and then around the States in solo and group exhibits. Since moving to Pittsburgh in 2009, he has continued to work for clients in a multitude of mediums and applications, including branding, comic book illustration, and murals just to name a few. Most recently, he has put his focus towards working with music acts, designing album covers, merch, and concert posters for bands around the world, but mainly in the Pittsburgh area.
