Ben is Digest Player of the Week

Posted Oct 23, 2011

BEN ROETHLISBERGER
Quarterback

The Steelers were in control throughout because their offense was in control, which meant their quarterback was in control. Ben Roethlisberger completed 26 of 39 for 361 yards and three touchdowns, which was good for a 121.8 passer rating.

In addition, Roethlisberger engineered scoring drives that answered Cardinals’ scoring drives, which allowed the Steelers to maintain their lead.

When Arizona drove to a touchdown late in the first half to close to 14-7, Roethlisberger marched the Steelers 52 yards on eight plays in 81 seconds for a field goal to restore the lead to 17-7 at halftime. When the Cardinals closed to 17-14 after LaRod Stephens-Howling’s 73-yard catch-and-run, Roethlisberger directed an 11-play, 80-yard drive that he capped with a 4-yard touchdown pass to Emmanuel Sanders that restored the lead to 24-14.

Roethlisberger is the Steelers Digest Player of the Week.

Also considered were LaMarr Woodley, who had seven tackles, two sacks and forced an intentional grounding penalty that resulted in a safety; Mike Wallace, who caught three passes for 118 yards, including a 95-yard touchdown; and Antonio Brown, who set career highs with seven catches and 102 receiving yards, to go along with another 113 he amassed on kick returns.
