Steve Scarnecchia will enter his 17th season in the NFL, including his sixth as chief of staff and first in the role with the Steelers in 2026.
Scarnecchia has served as chief of staff in each of the past five seasons, with stops in both Atlanta (2024-25) and N.Y. Jets (2021-23). Scarnecchia also served as assistant to the head coach for the Falcons from 2015-20.
In both Atlanta and N.Y. Jets, Scarnecchia was responsible for the coordination of the team's daily meetings and practice schedules, and overall football activities calendar. He also established the budget for football operations and scheduling practices. Scarnecchia also orchestrated team and staff events as well as providing administrative assistance to the coaching and operations staff.
In 2011, Scarnecchia joined Syracuse as the video coordinator and shifted to the director of operations in January 2013. While at Syracuse he was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the program, including the overall management of the football budget, team travel, bowl game coordination, and The Scott Shafer Football Camps. In addition, he was also responsible for game day management, the coordination and planning of team events, and special projects related to the football program.
In two years as the Syracuse video coordinator, Scarnecchia's role included managing the entire video services department, in addition to directing the football team's social media, and online recruiting efforts. He served in a producer role in creating content for these multimedia platforms. Scarnecchia was also active in steering many of the technology decisions for the renovation of the program's state-of-the-art facility in Manley Field House.
Prior to arriving in Syracuse, Scarnecchia spent 10 years managing video operations at the college and professional levels. Scarnecchia's NFL experience includes serving as a video director and director of multimedia for several professional teams and Division I programs, as well as a season, spent abroad in a similar role with the NFL Europe. In these roles, Scarnecchia oversaw the production of all preparation materials for the coaching staff and players as they worked each week to devise a game plan for the upcoming opponent.
The son of longtime Patriots assistant coach Dante Scarnecchia, Steve Scarnecchia earned a bachelor's degree television, radio, and film from Syracuse's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications while graduating cum laude in 2000.
Scarnecchia and his wife, Maddy, have three children, Reese (daughter), Rowan (son) and Ryan (daughter).
