PRO (16-0/3-0): Drafted by the Steelers as the team’s second of two seventh round selections (246th overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft.

2016 (16-0/3-0): Recorded 12 special teams tackles during the regular season (two, 11/13 vs. Dallas, 12/25 vs. Baltimore and 1/1 vs. Cleveland, and one, 9/18 vs. Cincinnati, 10/16 vs. Miami, 10/23 vs. New England, 11/20 at Cleveland, 11/24 at Indianapolis and 12/11 at Buffalo) and one during the postseason (AFC Divisional Playoff 1/15 at Kansas City).

      COLLEGE: Was a four-year letter winner at Temple (2012-15), where he became the program’s all-time leading tackler with 493 takedowns…became the first Temple defensive player to earn first-team All-America honors and the first Owl at any position since 1986 (Paul Palmer)…was the recipient of the Chuck Bednarik Award and Bronko Nargurski Trophy, given to the nation’s most outstanding defensive player in 2015…was named first-team all-conference in three straight seasons (2013-15), and earned second-team all-conference honors as a freshman in 2012…in 2015, was the only player in FBS to lead his team in tackles in every game, eclipsing the 100-tackle plateau for the fourth season, just the seventh player in NCAA history to accomplish the feat…was only one of two players be a three-time captain in Temple history…he led the AAC with 88 solo tackles in 2014…in 2013, led the NCAA with 8.8 solo tackles per game, and finished second in the NCAA with 11.4 total tackles per game…became the first freshman in program history to record 100 tackles in 2013, as he earned Big East Rookie of the Year honors…earned his degree in adult & organizational development.

      PERSONAL: Attended St. Joseph’s High School (Trumbull, Conn.)…was a 2011 all-state honoree at linebacker, helping the Cadets to a 10-2 record in his senior season while capturing back-to-back state championship titles…was named 2010 Connecticut Post Male Athlete of the Year…set the school record for touchdowns in a game with five vs. Trumball as a junior…also played baseball, leading the team as a junior with a .372 batting average, 32 RBIs and five homeruns…prepped one season at Milford Academy in 2011, where he earned all-state honors…son of Kim and David Matakevich…Full name: Tyler John Matakevich.
