Steelers make roster moves

The Steelers have placed tight end Heath Miller, cornerback Ike Taylor and running back Baron Batch on their Reserve/Injured List, it was announced today.

Miller, who had a team-high 71 receptions and 816 receiving yards, tied for the team lead in receiving touchdowns with eight on the season. He has 39 career receiving touchdowns, the most in team history for a tight end, before suffering a right knee injury in the Week 16 game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Taylor had missed three straight games (Weeks 14-16) after suffering a right ankle injury in the Steelers’ Week 13 victory at Baltimore. Prior to missing the past three games, he had played in 135 straight games for a cornerback. Taylor finished the season with one interception and 35 tackles.

Batch suffered a broken arm in the Week 16 game against the Bengals. After missing all of his rookie season in 2011, Batch spent most of this season on the Steelers’ active roster (three weeks on practice squad) and played primarily on special teams. He finished with four special teams tackles but also scored his first career touchdown with a 10-yard run against Tennessee in Week 6.

To fill the roster spots, Pittsburgh signed tight end Jamie McCoy, safety Damon Cromartie-Smith and linebacker Marshall McFadden. All three spent time on the team’s practice squad in 2012. McCoy will wear 82, Cromartie-Smith will wear 42, and McFadden will wear 40.

Additionally, the Steelers signed defensive back Walter McFadden and wide receiver Bert Reed to their practice squad.
