New number, fresh start for McCullers

It's not uncommon for a player to change his jersey number after he makes the roster for the first time, shedding a number that was assigned to him early on for one that has more meaning, or fits better at the position he is playing.

But it's not as common when a player changes it going into his third season, something nose tackle Dan McCullers did recently.

McCullers got rid of his old No. 62 and is now wearing No. 93, the number previously worn by defensive lineman Cam Thomas.

"I just felt like I wanted to switch it up," said McCullers. "It was a new year, I just wanted to go with No. 93. I thought it would look good on me. There isn't much into it. It's just what you prefer. I just wanted to try something different.

"It's a big year ahead of me and it's a nice fresh start. I am ready to go."

McCullers said the person probably happiest that he made the switch is his 17-year old sister Dakita.

"My youngest sister didn't like No. 62," said McCullers. "I don't know why. She just didn't like the number at all. I don't know what is wrong with it, what was so bad. She wasn't feeling it. She was excited when I told her I was switching it up.

"I hadn't bought any No. 62 jerseys for my family, but I am going to buy some No. 93 jerseys."
