McCullers hoping his time is now

LATROBE, Pa. – At 6-7, 352 pounds, you expect Vince Williams to have a booming voice and be boisterous.

But it's quite the opposite.

He is soft-spoken and quiet, somebody who would rather shy away from the cameras than be in the spotlight.

This year, though, he wouldn't mind being in the spotlight. On the field that is.

"I want to go out there and be a dominant player each and every practice," said McCullers. "I want to improve my technique and ability so I can have a great year. It's a big year ahead of me. A lot of people are looking to see what I can do and I want to do great."

McCullers, who changed his number from No. 62 to No. 93 this offseason, is hoping with the number change will come a change in his productivity. He has seen limited playing time in his first two seasons and is looking to make an impact this year."

"You have to go out there and play well," said McCullers. "I know I can do that with the technique I have been working on and the coaches I have working with me and the skills they teach. I know I can go out there and have a great season. Whenever I play the way I know I can play, I can be a starter."

McCullers is competing for a starting job that was vacated when nose tackle Steve McLendon signed with the New York Jets this offseason. It's a job he is confident he can do, he just has to take that next step.

"I feel like I can go out there and give great effort each and every play," said McCullers. "I just have to work on my conditioning and my technique. Knowing that you can be that great player, you just have to keep putting the work in. You have to work hard, focus, learn from the coaches and players."

"The NFL level is totally different from college. It's faster. You have to be in tip-top shape because you are going to get exposed if you aren't."
