Maxey and Shabazz promoted to active roster

PITTSBURGH – The Steelers promoted defensive tackle Johnny Maxey and cornerback Al-Hajj Shabazz from the practice squad to the active roster, it was announced today.

Maxey has spent the entire season on the practice squad. He originally signed with the Steelers as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Mars Hill following the 2016 NFL Draft.

Shabazz has played in six games during the 2016 season (five with Pittsburgh and one with Houston). He was claimed off waivers by Texans on December 5. After being released by the Texans on December 17, Shabazz returned to the Steelers' practice squad.

To make room for Maxey and Shabazz on the active roster, the Steelers placed safety Robert Golden on the team's Reserve/Injured List and released running back Daryl Richardson.
