NFL free agency is just hours away, and when the clock strikes 4 p.m. it kicks into high gear.
The Steelers have been busy the last few days, re-signing or agreeing to terms with their own players who were scheduled to become free agents.
The team signed or agreed to terms on a three-year deal with guard Ramon Foster
, cornerback Will Gay, safety Rob Golden and receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey
. The team also re-signed long snapper Greg Warren
this offseason, keeping him from reaching free agency as well.
“The outside world thinks it’s a great time,” said Heyward-Bey. “Free agency for a lot of people is nerve-wracking. We are talking about relocating if you have to go somewhere new, the negotiations are tough. But to not have to go through that and know this is home, it’s a great feeling not to go through the craziness.”
The following are slated to become unrestricted free agents today: quarterbacks Bruce Gradkowski
and Mike Vick
; running backs/fullbacks Will Johnson
and Jordan Todman
; offensive linemen Kelvin Beachum
, Doug Legursky
and Byron Stingily
; defensive linemen Clifton Geathers
, Steve McLendon
and Cam Thomas
; linebacker Sean Spence
; and defensive backs Will Allen
, Antwon Blake
, and Brandon Boykin
The Steelers only have one restricted free agent, linebacker Terence Garvin
All unrestricted free agents are free to negotiate and sign with any other team, without giving the Steelers the opportunity to re-sign them.
